Hello lovelies! I finally got around to uploading my vacation pictures, and I decided now was a good time to write about my trip to London for New Years.
London is my favorite city in the world, and it’s also the place that my husband asked me to marry him a few years ago. I was fortunate enough to score tickets to see Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, so going back to London was a no-brainer!
We were only there for several days, but we made the most of our time. We went on a guided tour of the state rooms at Buckingham Palace, which ended with a glass of champagne.
After we visited the gift shop, we were each escorted out of the palace through the FRONT GATES! I’ve toured Buckingham Palace before, and I’ve NEVER exited out of the front of the palace before. There were crowds outside of the palace, and people were staring at us and taking pictures of us as we walked out. I secretly hoped that they thought I was a relative of Kate’s.
We visited the British Museum, the National Gallery, and I finally rode on the London Eye. I’ve been to London twice before this trip, and I never rode the London Eye, so I decided it was necessary this time! I’m glad I did it, but honestly, I don’t think I’d do it ever again. The views are great (obviously), but if you’re as unlucky as I am, the people in your capsule will refuse to move from the spots with the best views.
It takes about a half hour for each capsule to go around, so there’s no reason why you can’t take some pictures from the good spots then move so that someone else can enjoy (I’m still upset about this, in case you couldn’t tell!)
One of my favorite things to do on vacation is just walk about and enjoy the scenery. Christmas lights were still on display, so we walked around the city each night to look at them.
While we were in the Covent Garden area we ate lunch at Punch & Judy. The Punch & Judy pub was built in 1787, and is in one of the few areas of Covent Garden that was not damaged during World War II. The food there was alright, but what we both really enjoyed was the atmosphere.
Anyone that knows me well knows that I am a big fan of Harry Potter. While we were in London we saw both Part 1 and Part 2 of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.
IT WAS SO GOOD!!! Seriously. It was THE BEST! It was a roller coaster of emotions and I loved every minute of it.
We stayed at The Royal Horseguards hotel, which is located in central London on the River Thames. It was super nice, and the location was amazing. The London Eye was directly across the river from the hotel! We were lucky enough to get tickets for the New Years Eve fireworks show, so on NYE we secured our spot outside along the river around 6:30pm.
It was totally worth it once midnight rolled around, because we were in the very front of the crowd and had the best view (click here to go to my Instagram page to see a video of the fireworks) NYE in London was one of the best nights of my life. Watching the countdown to 2017 and the incredible fireworks show after was something I will never forget.
