How are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions? I’ve been really good about using reusable shopping bags, and I’ve been recycling a lot more than I used to. I haven’t attempted to make macarons yet, but I’ve read three books since the start of January.
The first book was The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider. It’s your typical young-adult book with all the right twists & turns, and it was also a quick read. I liked it a lot and recommend it if you’re into YA books.
The next book I read was Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. If this sounds familiar to you it’s probably because it’s going to be a miniseries on HBO. I LOVED this book! It’s filled with drama, mystery, and a little bit of humor. I finished this book in less than a week and I can’t wait to watch the miniseries. Speaking of that, do any of you know how I can watch it if I don’t have HBO?!
I just finished reading Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah. It’s a story about the ups and downs between two lifelong best friends. Overall I thought the book was good, but it wasn’t one of my favorites. I read this book because I heard it was really good, plus I read another one of Kristin Hannah’s books last year and I really loved it. If you like historical fiction you should definitely read The Nightingale.
In addition to reading, I’ve also been playing a bunch of classic nintendo games lately. And by classic, I mean only Super Mario games. Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World are my favorites. Playing these games brought back SO many childhood memories.
When I was a kid, my mom took me and my brother to church every Saturday evening. This was followed by Sunday school the following morning. As a kid I thought this was the worst possible way to spend my weekend. If we behaved well during church my mom would take us to the video store afterward and we would each rent a movie or video game. Every single time I would rent the same game— The Little Mermaid. I was obsessed with that game! I just bought it off of eBay, and let me just say it’s the best ten bucks I’ve spent in a while!
When I was a kid I was also obsessed with Barbies. I still have most of my Barbies from when I was little, including my FAVORITE one— Camp Barbie. She came with a pink backpack that unrolled and became a sleeping bag, and the sleeping bag was covered in glow in the dark stars. She was the coolest Barbie EVER and I played with her allllll the time. I find this really amusing now since I’ve never actually gone camping before.
Some of my other childhood favorites include the Skip-It (a toy that encouraged kids to be active and also destroyed every ankle it came in contact with), Sky Dancers (I used to shoot them into the living room ceiling fan), Dunkaroos, cherry flavored Slush Puppies, and The Babysitters Club books (Claudia was the coolest).
I was also addicted to Nickelodeon, and the best part of Nickelodeon was SNICK on Saturday nights. My brother and I used to eat pizza and watch SNICK together every week. Ohhh those were the days! My favorite SNICK shows were Are You Afraid of the Dark? and The Secret World of Alex Mack (I was also obsessed with the books— don’t judge me).
