I am. so. exhausted. So much happened last month! I went on an AMAZING vacation (pictures will be posted soon), I traveled to Houston for work, and my brother got married last weekend (yay!). As if the jet lag wasn’t bad enough, I caught a cold on the flight back from vacation. I felt so terrible that I called my dad on our layover and asked him to bring some NyQuil with him when he picked us up at the airport. My dad is the best!
Our vacation started with a long layover in London, so we spent our time at Kew Gardens. We visited Kew Gardens for the first time in the fall of 2014, so I was excited to visit it again during a different season. It’s about 30 minutes outside of central London, so if you’re ever in London you should definitely make the trip to Kew. There were so many different flowers and trees in bloom, and the weather that day was perfect.
Have I ever mentioned that I love all things beauty? I love reading about and trying new beauty products, and I’ve been obsessed with Sephora for as long as I can remember. My husband gives me the most disapproving look every time a Sephora box shows up on our doorstep. Actually, he gives me that look every time a box shows up on our doorstep, no matter where it is from. I love online shopping, and it’s not my fault that options like ‘buy now with 1 click’ exist (thanks, Amazon!).
I recently signed up for Sephora’s monthly beauty subscription box. Play! by Sephora is similar to Ipsy and Birchbox. I can’t say which subscription box is the best since Play! is the only one I’ve tried. It’s $10 per month and it comes with five deluxe samples of beauty, hair care or skin care products. I love having lots of sample sized products because they are the perfect size to pack in my carry on bag when I travel.
While I love to try new products, there are some products that I always have on hand and tend to use most often. The list below includes some of my favorite ones. Some of these products I’ve used for years (one since high school!), and some I’ve started using more recently.
1.) It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC cream: I would buy this in bulk if I could! It has anti aging benefits, SPF 50 sunscreen, and it covers like a dream. It gives me coverage like a foundation without feeling heavy. This is also the only CC cream that doesn’t leave my skin feeling oily by the end of the day.
2.) Davines Melu shampoo & conditioner: I’ve been using this shampoo and conditioner for over a year now and I love it! It’s made for long and damage prone hair, and it smells SO good! I use a blow dryer and curling iron on my hair several times a week, and this shampoo & conditioner helps my hair stay soft and healthy.
3.) Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara: There are a lot of great mascaras out there, but I always go back to this one. It gives my lashes a ton of volume and length without having to use multiple coats. My only complaint is that when I use it on my lower lashes it tends to flake off onto my skin throughout the day. To prevent that I use a different mascara on my lower lashes.
4.) NARS Blush: I don’t wear blush every day, but when I do this is the only one I wear. The shade I use is called Orgasm, which is a light shimmery pink. It’s very natural looking, and it blends effortlessly so it’s almost impossible to mess up!
5.) Philosophy Amazing Grace Firming Body Emulsion: This is my favorite body lotion! It keeps my skin hydrated without being too heavy or greasy, and it has the most amazing light, floral scent. I’ve used it for a while now, and I haven’t noticed a difference in the firmness of my skin. Despite that, I’ll continue to use this lotion because I love the scent so much.
6.) NARS Concealer: I use this under my eyes and on any blemishes that I have. It applies so easily and it does not crease. I’ve tried many different concealers and this is the first brand I’ve found that has a color that matches my skin tone so perfectly.
7.) Philosophy- The Microdelivery Exfoliating Facial Wash: I love how clean and refreshed my face feels when I use this. It has super tiny beads that exfoliate your skin and make it feel super smooth. I use this face wash every night before bed and I haven’t had issues with it making my face too dry.
8.) Covergirl Eyeshadow: I’ve been wearing this eyeshadow since high school (I’m serious!). The color palette I use is called Shimmering Sands. I’ve tried many, many different eye shadows through the years and this one is my go-to because I love the colors so much. The only con about this eyeshadow is that it doesn’t last all day, so I recommend using an eyeshadow primer.
9.) Beautyblender: This is hands down the BEST sponge applicator. I use it to apply both my concealer and my CC cream. I love how soft it is and how effortless it makes applying my makeup. It’s definitely worth the price, and it lasts a long time if you clean it regularly.
10.) Kat Von D tattoo liner: I have tried so many black eyeliners and this one is my favorite. Unlike a pencil liner, this liner glides on so smoothly without tugging on my eyelids. The tip is very fine so it’s easy to control the thickness of the line you want. It’s long lasting and waterproof, so it stays on all day long and doesn’t run.
