I have a love/hate relationship with this time of the year. I love the nice weather, but I hate my allergies! I’ve had seasonal allergies for as long as I can remember. My allergies make their unwelcome appearance every single year in the spring time. I keep hoping that they’ll eventually go away, but unfortunately, they’ve only gotten worse. Over the last couple of years I’ve developed allergies in the fall, too.
The weather was PERFECT last weekend, and since my allergies weren’t bothering me, we took our bikes to the towpath. Everything was fine for about the first half hour, then my eyes started feeling itchy. Almost immediately my mouth and throat became itchy, and my eyes started watering so much it looked like I had just finished watching Titanic (if you don’t cry after watching that movie you are a robot). The sneezing and runny nose were next, so back home we went. So, yeah. Allergies are the worst. I’ll stop complaining (for now).
During April my husband and I vacationed in Greece. We visited Athens and Santorini, as well as several other Greek islands. Everywhere we went was absolutely beautiful. Pictures don’t do it justice!
We were in Santorini on my birthday, and my husband planned the cutest surprise. We hiked from Oia to Fira, and when we got back to our cave house in Oia there was a bouquet of flowers and a birthday cake waiting for me inside. It was right before sunset, so we took the cake and some wine out to our private hot tub. After we watched the sunset from the hot tub (and ate way too much cake) we got dressed and went out to dinner. It was seriously the best and most memorable birthday I’ve ever had!
While in Santorini we went on a wine tour. The tour was about 4.5 hours long, and it included luxury transportation. My favorite part about it was the fact that it was a semi-private tour. There was a total of eight people in our group, plus the tour guide.
We visited three different wineries on the island, and we got to try samples of many different kinds of wine, as well as small appetizers, at each one. Fun fact— the grapes in Greece grow as a braided wreath on the ground.
Our hotel room in Athens had an amazing view of the Acropolis. It was so surreal waking up and falling asleep with a view like that.
While in Athens we visited the Acropolis Museum and many different ancient ruins like the Parthenon, the Ancient Agora of Athens, the Temple of Athena Nike, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus.
We also went on a cruise that visited three Greek islands— Poros, Hydra, and Aegina. All three islands were incredibly beautiful, and the next time we visit Greece we will definitely visit them again.
So many wonderful memories were made on this vacation, and everywhere we visited was just so beautiful. Greece, you did not disappoint!
