Hello friends! It’s been a while since my last post, and I have so much to tell you all. It’s a cold and snowy weekend here in Ohio, so I’m camped out on the couch with my laptop and a Harry Potter movie on the TV.
I changed up some things on the blog, including the email subscription part. If you want to continue to receive email updates when I add new posts, you will need to subscribe again. If you haven’t subscribed at all yet, what are you waiting for?!
Let’s get down to business, shall we?
My husband and I planned on vacationing in Costa Rica during the week of Thanksgiving. Everything was booked— the flight, the hotels, and the activities. At the last minute we ended up changing our travel plans entirely. We vacationed in Oahu instead, which is honestly so much better than Costa Rica (in my opinion). Hawaii is always a good idea!
So you’re probably wondering why we changed our vacation plans so last minute. We told our friends and family that a cancelled flight was the reason for the change. We said that the airline was unable to get us on another flight to Costa Rica until three days later, so rather than lose three days of vacation we went somewhere else instead. If you know me well, you know that this is indeed something I would do.
The truth is, we changed our vacation plans four days before we left. My husband spent the better part of a day on the phone with the airline and with several hotel customer service reps making the changes/cancellations. For this alone he deserves an award. I hate calling customer service!
We decided not to go to Costa Rica because we found out that I was pregnant the week before our vacation. Yep, that’s right…. Baby #1 will be here July 2018! We are so excited (and also very nervous!) about the soon-to-be addition to our family. This has been one of the hardest secrets I’ve ever had to keep!
I’ve been lucky because I haven’t had any morning sickness at all. The only real symptom I’ve had, other than mood swings (sorry, Jim!), is bloating. Why is it that pregnant women never talk about the bloating? It’s awful! My doctor said it’s very common and normal, so I know I’m not the only one suffering!
Neither of us felt comfortable with the idea of going to Costa Rica since the Zika Virus has been reported there, so changing our vacation plans was a no-brainer. Hawaii seemed like a good choice, and since we’ve been to the big island and Maui before, we decided to go to Oahu.
We booked our hotel in Waikiki, but we spent every day exploring other parts of the island. We did the typical tourist activities, which included visiting the Dole Plantation, Pearl Harbor, and Diamond Head. The Dole Plantation was just OK. There’s a mini train that takes you on a tour through the plantation, as well as a pineapple garden maze that covers over three acres. A visit to the Dole Plantation is probably more fun if you have kids (I’ll let you know in a few years!). Despite being labeled as touristy, Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head are both must-sees.
We also went on an ATV tour at Kualoa Ranch, which was one of my favorite parts of our vacation. Kualoa Ranch is a beautiful, private nature reserve located on the northeastern side of Oahu. You’ve probably seen it before in movies like Jurassic World, Jurassic Park, and Pearl Harbor. We did the two hour tour and we saw some really incredible views. The tour guides were so amazing and they made the whole experience more enjoyable. I highly recommend visiting Kualoa Ranch!
The next Hawaiian island we want to visit is Kauai. If you’ve been there before, comment below and let me know where you stayed and what the must-sees are!
